Extra funding for Megalong positioning service

5 July 2011

The NSW Government has announced $482,000 in one-off funding for the Megalong Positioning Service, which makes customised equipment for people with a disability.

Minister for Disability Services, Andrew Constance, said the additional funding would enable the relocation of the service from Leura into larger premises at Lawson so it could provide extra support.

“The Megalong service has been operating for around 10 years, designing and manufacturing customised seating and positioning products for people with a disability,” Mr Constance said.

“It is a mobile service where a seating consultant visits and assesses a person in their own home, school or hospital.”

“Because they visit people in their regular home, Megalong Positioning Service is able to design solutions that are specific to the individual’s needs.”

Megalong Positioning Service is a social enterprise of Greystanes Disability Services, which operates group homes for people with complex medical needs and provides community participation and transition to work services for people with a disability.

Blue Mountains MP Roza Sage said as a result of the organisation’s excellent work, there has been a growing demand for its services.

“This one-off funding will allow the Megalong Positioning Service to expand its marketing, products and range of services, giving people with a disability access to the latest positioning technologies,” Mrs Sage said.

“I look forward to seeing this valuable service grow and improve its production processes and capacity in its new factory.”

“The Greystanes Disability Services has successfully transitioned people with a disability from large residential centres to community-based group homes and has played a very active role in empowering people with a disability in the community.”
