The NSW Government has given an extra $277,000 to the Royal Institute of Deaf and Blind Children (RIDBC) to enhance their delivery of early childhood intervention services.

Minister for Disability Services, Andrew Constance, recently toured the North Rocks facility with the Member for Castle Hill Dominic Perrottet and the Member for Baulkham Hills David Elliott.

The RIDBC provides essential educational services to children who have significant hearing and/or vision impairment, including children with an additional disability.

Mr Constance said that the organisation annually receives almost $3.7 million in Government funding to provide a range of services including therapy, community support, alternative family placement, outreach support and alternative format productions.

"These extra funds will help strengthen the broader service system's capacity for supporting children with a vision and hearing impairment," Mr Constance said.

"This funding will be targeted to support new and emerging groups including people with a sensory impairment."

Mr Elliott said the Institute's aim is to provide early intervention services to children in mainstream pre school and school settings that enable families and children to become independent.

"This funding will support families through key transition points such as assisting a child's access into a play group, as well as participation in community and mainstream activities," Mr Elliott said.

Mr Perrottet said early intervention is critical for critical for children with vision and hearing impairments.

"Without early intervention, serious problems can arise later in life when it comes to a child's ability to interact with people," Mr Perrottet said.

Funding was provided through Stronger Together, the O'Farrell Government's strategy for expanding and improving the provision of disability support services.
