New facility in Cherrybrook for people with a disability

26 August 2011

NSW Minister for Disability Services, Andrew Constance, today joined Castle Hill MP Dominic Perrottet in opening a new $4.1 million facility at Cherrybrook designed to provide Post School Options, Community Participation, Targeted Support and Active Ageing Programs for people with a disability.

The Dulkara Day Centre is operated by Inala, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals with a disability and increasing their independence and participation in the wider community.

The project was financed through the organisation’s reserves and almost $1.8 million in community donations and fundraising.

“The NSW Government provides almost $11 million in recurrent funding to Inala to help the organisation deliver its vital services including supported accommodation, day programs and employment services for adults,” Mr Constance said.

“The flexible programs delivered at Dulkara are designed to meet the needs, aspirations and ongoing development of adults with an intellectual disability who live in Sydney’s north west.”

“The NSW Government is committed to supporting organisations like Inala and the valuable services they deliver in local communities.”
Mr Perrottet said today’s opening marks a proud milestone in the organisation’s history.

“For almost 40 years, the Dulkara Day Centre was housed in a fibro cottage with a number of outbuildings at the organisation’s Franklin Road site,” Mr Perrottet said.

“It has been a long held dream for the organisation to have a purpose-built facility, and thanks largely to community donations, that dream has become a reality.”
Inala was established in 1958 and provides supports to a total of 180 people.
