Quakers Hill Nursing Home - Statement

18 November 2011

I extend my condolences to the victims and their families of this morning’s fire at the Quakers Hill Nursing Home.

This is an absolute tragedy, and my thoughts and prayers are with those affected by this devastating loss of life.

I commend the swift actions of the staff at the nursing home and emergency service workers who responded to the incident.

This morning, I spoke to the Federal Minister Mark Butler and have offered the NSW Government’s support to help those who have been injured and displaced.

The NSW Government, including through ADHC, has offered the Commonwealth its resources and will stand by to offer any assistance it can for the residents and families affected in this tragic event.

Family and friends seeking information on their loved ones should contact 1800 227 228. As the central coordinating point this number will have the most useful information on arrangements to assist residents and families.
