Top talent to entertain seniors at Premier’s Christmas Gala Concerts

6 December 2011

Thousands of seniors will converge on the Sydney Entertainment Centre over the next two days to be dazzled and delighted at the Premier’s Christmas Gala Concerts.

NSW Minister for Ageing Andrew Constance said the concerts were held by the NSW Government to thank seniors for their on-going contributions to family, workplaces and communities.

“They are also an opportunity for seniors to reward themselves with some free quality entertainment and get into the Christmas spirit. The theme for this year’s event is All Wrapped Up For Christmas,” Mr Constance said.

The event will be hosted by comedian Fiona O'Loughlin, and features some of Australia's leading performers, including John Bolton Wood, Jaz Flowers, Martin Crewes, Lucy Maunder and acappella group The Idea of North.

The next suite of Premier’s Concerts will be held on 19-20 March next year during NSW Seniors Week. Tickets to those events will go on sale Tuesday 7 February 2012.

“The O’Farrell Government is committed to acknowledging the immense contribution older residents make to NSW and improving the services they rely upon,” Mr Constance said.

“In October, we celebrated the State’s inaugural Grandparents Day – designed to promote the value of grandparenting throughout NSW. The Day will return next year with even more attractions and initiatives.”

“Also, we have begun the development of a NSW Whole of Government Ageing Strategy to ensure the issues of ageing and older persons are brought into the mainstream of policy making.”

“In addition, the O’Farrell Government has signed a reciprocal arrangement to allow NSW Seniors Card holders visiting New Zealand to access commercial discounts offered to New Zealand SuperGold Card holders.”
