Grants now available for 2013 NSW Seniors Week

6 August 2012

NSW organisations are invited to apply for funding for their 2013 NSW Seniors Week events.

Minister for Ageing, Andrew Constance, said funding is now available for community organisations and local councils across the state to stage events and activities during the week.

"The NSW Government has made $175,000 available and I encourage organisations to submit their applications," Mr Constance said.

The wide variety of local activities for seniors has become a key to the success of Seniors Week.

"Promoting computer literacy and active living among seniors are key areas this year in line with the newly launched NSW Ageing Strategy," Mr Constance said.

"We are also calling on local councils to embrace the NSW Seniors Week message to 'Live Life!' and support initiatives which promote physical and recreational activities."

Demand for the grants is high. Last year 441 applications were received and 267 applications were successful.

Applications will be accepted until Friday 7 September 2012.

2013 NSW Seniors Week will take place between 17 and 24 March.

"We encourage indigenous and multicultural organisations to apply for grants as we would like the celebrations to reflect our diverse community," Mr Constance said.

The application for grant funding is available at www.nswseniorsweek.com.au or people may call the Seniors Information Service on 13 12 44 to obtain a hard copy.
