New appointment for Carers Advisory Council

Coffs Harbour carer advocate, Yvonne Quadros is the latest appointment to the NSW Carers Advisory Council, Minister for Ageing and Minister for Disability Services Andrew Constance announced today.

Mr Constance said Ms Quadros brings a wealth of knowledge and experience as a carer and supporter of carers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

"I congratulate Ms Quadros on her appointment to the NSW Carers Advisory Council," Mr Constance said.

"Ms Quadros' extensive experience further broadens the Council's representation of carers and will ultimately deliver better outcomes for carers throughout the State."

Born and educated in India, Ms Quadros has cared for her son with a psychiatric illness for more than 20 years. She was a founding member of a carer support group and is passionate about furthering the interests of carers, especially those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Ms Quadros is a member of the National Register of Mental Health Consumers and Carers and received a NSW Carer Award in 2010.

"There are approximately 850,000 carers in NSW, who provide unpaid care and support to people who need it because of disability, chronic illness, mental illness, frail age or dementia," Mr Constance said.

"The Carers Advisory Council provides a vital link between the interests of carers and decision-makers in government."

The Council was established under the NSW Carers (Recognition) Act 2010. It provides advice to the NSW Government on legislation and policy issues affecting carers.
