Seniors Card media release: Eleebana grandmother off to Europe

19 March 2012

A grandmother of three from the Hunter is off to Europe after winning a trip of a lifetime thanks to one of her best friends and NSW Seniors Card.

Carol Hawkins and her husband Barry, from Eleebana, are set to embark on a 15-day APT river cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest after winning a Seniors Card competition.

“I became a Seniors Card member in January after receiving an application form in a birthday card sent by a friend,” Mrs Hawkins said.

Two months later and, after completing a survey on the Seniors Card website, Mrs Hawkins’ name was drawn out as the winner of the $20,000 holiday.

The Hawkins will explore the charming cities, towns and villages of five European countries, while cruising on one of APT's luxurious river ships.

“Of course, my friend now wants to come with me because she says I would not have won the trip without her,” Mrs Hawkins said.

“I think I’m still in shock because I’ve never won anything like this before.

“I’m really excited and can’t wait to leave.

“Five-star luxury cruising the rivers of Europe is a dream come true.”

Mrs Hawkins was one of thousands of people who took part in the Seniors Card survey, the results of which will be used to further improve services to members.

“In the short time I have been a member, I have been impressed with the benefits the program has to offer including discounts, holidays and services,” Mrs Hawkins said.

There are currently more than one million NSW Seniors Card members.

NSW Seniors Card assists semi-retired and retired seniors to enjoy an active and healthy lifestyle.
