More respite care places in the Nepean

27 September 2013

Minister for Disability Services and Ageing John Ajaka has announced an increase in respite care services in the Nepean.

Mr Ajaka said $256,000 will be provided to Flintwood Disability Services to increase respite time for families and carers for people with a disability.

“Flintwood provides supports to approximately 100 children with a disability and their families in the Nepean area,” he said.

“Carers make enormous sacrifices for their loved ones and the NSW Government is committed to supporting them by ensuring the appropriate supports are in place.”

The Minister said the funds will be directed to families and carers in need of immediate and time limited respite supports.

“These respite solutions provide flexible support to families and carers and will cover a range of activities which can be carried out either in the person’s home or in other community settings.”

“It assists in supporting and maintaining the relationship with the carer while also providing a positive experience for the person with disability.

The Member for Penrith Stuart Ayres has welcomed the funding saying it will benefit many Nepean families.

“Flintwood is integral to the Penrith community by offering assistance and numerous programs for those requiring diverse levels of support “he said.

Investment in respite forms part of the NSW Government’s commitment under Stronger Together 2, the largest increase in funding for disability services in the state’s history.

Stronger Together 2 is committed to providing flexible respite options that are person-centred and that maximise social inclusion through delivering new recreation and leisure focused respite options.
