New DVD presents accommodation options for people with disability
25 October 2012
Minister for Disability Services Andrew Constance today launched a set of communication resources to highlight the accommodation support options available to people with disability in NSW.
"The NSW Government has committed $724 million in funding for supported accommodation, as part of the five year Stronger Together 2 program, to provide support for 1,750 individuals," Mr Constance said.
A range of accommodation support options are available that ensures that people with disability are at the forefront of decision making and choices that affect their lives.
The Accommodation Support Options DVD is a collection of stories about people with disability who are accessing a range of accommodation funded by Ageing, Disability and Home Care (ADHC) and operated by both ADHC and the non-government sector.
The stories highlight the various support options that are available and how different individuals, with a range of ages, disability support needs and personal situations are currently using them.
Along with the DVD, an updated Accommodation Support Options booklet has been published, which reflects the contemporary models in an easy to read, and visually engaging format.
Fact sheets that explore some of the more specific elements of each model, including eligibility and suitability are also available.
"We are very excited that people with disability, their families and carers will be able to get more information on what type of support is available, and the most suitable options for them," Mr Constance said.
"These resources will give case managers and other support people the tools to have a real discussion about what options would suit each person for the life they want to live."
