Person centred approaches - Thousands have their say in reform

Person centred approaches consultations

An unprecedented level of consultation with stakeholders across the State is paving the way for the introduction of a person centred approach to support people with a disability.

The approach is a key element of the government’s reform agenda outlined in Stronger Together Two – a 10-year plan to support people with a disability and their families.

The consultations were launched by Minister for Ageing and Disability Andrew Constance at a two day summit on 7 and 8 July at Acer Arena, Homebush. Around 500 people attended including people with a disability, their families and carers, non-government service providers, peak bodies and advocacy organisations and government agencies.

Over the past four months an extensive series of consultations has included over 3000 attendees at almost 200 sessions across the State. A submission process has also enabled more than 100 people and organisations to have their say. These will also be considered as part of the development of the approach.

A further series of state-wide consultations will take place in early/mid 2012 to share and consider a draft working model of the approach.
