Val - Registered Nurse (Clinical Nurse Specialist)

Val - Registered Nurse (Clinical Nurse Specialist)I am a Clinical Nurse Specialist working at a large residence in the Northern Sydney region. I work with people with a disability that live in the residence, and organise day programs so that they can live happy and meaningful lives.

It is a hands-on position and I receive assistance from other unit staff on daily basis. We come together in small groups and give one-on-one support to our clients so they can relax and also have fun. Examples of sessions that run include where we might use a sensory awareness room, or help our people to use computers, undertake some cooking, participate in crafts, develop a healthy lifestyle, be part of a work crew or some home theatre.

We have also recently been recording the life stories of our clients which has highlighted the uniqueness of each person strengthening the partnership between families & carers. We also explore a range of activities in the community.

Why do you think ADHC is a good employer?

Working for ADHC means we have policies, procedures and standards to reach but there is still room for individual expression in how to achieve positive outcomes for our clients.
