Selecting care workers
We select our care workers through an open and competitive process where candidates must apply in writing and attend an interview.
We seek people who are:
- caring and understanding
- able to work with frail aged people, people with disabilities and their carers
- willing to be trained
- able to work without direct supervision
- able to work as part of a team
- able to communicate well
- aware of the need for safety (OHS) in the workplace
- seeking to re-enter the workforce
We value the diversity of our care workers who come from as many different cultural backgrounds as do our clients.
All new care workers are required to have a satisfactory criminal record check and may also be required to attend a pre employment functional assessment before starting work. Once they begin, they are trained in the standards of conduct and behaviour that is expected of them. These standards are embodied in our code of conduct.
New care workers also receive orientation and skills development training so that they understand the aims of the Home Care Service and have the skills to deliver the service safely and to a high standard.
Care workers also have the opportunity for further training in areas such as OHS, personal care, Certificate III in Home & Community Care and client specific training.
