Aboriginal NDIS Readiness Gatherings

ADHC is rolling out Aboriginal National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Readiness gatherings across NSW.  The gatherings target Aboriginal people with disability, their carers, family and communities in NSW:

  • Enabling information exchange with Aboriginal people and Aboriginal communities regarding the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). Including eligibility, access and support planning.
  • Providing information about the NDIS to Elders and leaders to take back to their communities.
  • Establishing trust and communication pathways for ongoing conversations between government, non government services and Aboriginal community members regarding the NDIS.

The gatherings bring Aboriginal communities together, provide speakers and formal information.  They also enable open communication through ‘yarning circles’, workshops, cultural displays and entertainment.

The information is provided in a language and format that Aboriginal people understand.  This provides a culturally safe environment where Aboriginal people with disability, their carers and families feel heard and listened to, and are given the opportunity to speak and ask questions.

Follow this link to view video stories of Aboriginal people with disability accessing the NDIS and video clips from previous Aboriginal NDIS readiness gatherings.

A list of confirmed future events are shown below.  Many additional locations are planned and will be added to this page when confirmed.
