Augmentative and alternative communication guidelines

This looks at the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication – frameworks, strategies, systems, assessment and prescription incorporating person centred planning, evidence based functional AAC goals and use of outcome measures. It is to be used in conjunction with the complex communication needs guidelines.

Complex communication needs guidelines

This builds participants’ understanding of good practice in assessment and intervention when supporting a person with complex communication needs. It is to be used in conjunction with the augmentative and alternative communication guidelines.

Mealtime Management Modules

This is an e-learning course with supporting resource materials and appraisal for the mealtime management core standard program. There are 12 interactive modules which cover a wide range of topics focused on the person with mealtime issues, family/caregiver/staff and other professionals.

Optional Additional Core Standards

Supporting Sexuality

This core standard supports occupational therapists and other interested practitioners to understand the importance of sexual expression for people with disability. It ensures that these practitioners are well placed to support individuals to engage in valued and meaningful roles and occupations related to sexuality. An optional appraisal is available for occupational therapists.

Supporting Sleep

This core standard provides a practice guide for practitioners so that they are equipped to identify sleep issues and support people with disability to experience adequate sleep. An optional appraisal is available.

Dysphagia and disability conference

A conference on dysphagia and disability was held on June 22 and 23, 2016. This was to share information and increase capacity for speech pathologists in the area of disability and dysphagia. The agenda and power point presentations and posters displayed are listed below with PDF links.
