Industry Development Fund

As the roll out to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) continues, non-government disability service providers have an opportunity to direct and shape their future.

The Industry Development Fund (IDF) is supporting the disability sector to ensure it is ready to meet the expectations of people with disability, their families and carers.

In 2009-10, The NSW Government invested $17 million to establish the IDF, which supports initiatives to develop the NGO sector to achieve an integrated, efficient, innovative and robust service system. A further $5 million was later allocated to the IDF to ensure the fund could meet changing priorities in the disability sector in the transition to the NDIS.

The IDF was built upon six key areas of industry development in NSW, which focus on ensuring:

  1. People with disability at the centre of service delivery;
  2. People with disability have access to the information and range of supports they need to live the lives they choose;
  3. High-performing organisations achieving real outcomes for people with disability;
  4. Robust planning and resource allocation decisions based on accurate data and evidence;
  5. Effective governance, leadership and management of the sector; and
  6. The workforce is skilled, capable and focused on people with disability.

These key areas were developed as part of a state-wide consultations and have been documented in a Directions Paper, the NSW Disability Services Sector – Directions for Industry Development.

Review of Industry Development Fund

In 2014, ADHC engaged the Nucleus Group to undertake a review of the IDF. This review has found that the IDF has played an important role for the disability sector, and has not only supported the sector to engage with a variety of projects and initiatives, but has also raised awareness of the changes and wider reforms impacting on the sector.
Through the IDF, the disability sector in NSW has achieved a greater level of readiness for the full roll out of the NDIS.
